What happened — June 2026
Jun 6 — Iran’s IRGC detained US-linked cargo vessel Arista in the Strait of Hormuz, citing transit violations. This followed the April 22 seizures of MSC Francesca and Epaminondas, with 40+ crew still held at Bandar Abbas.
Jun 9 — US forces struck Palau-flagged tanker MT Settebello in the Gulf of Oman. 24 Indian crew were onboard; 3 were killed and 21 rescued. India filed a formal protest.
Jun 10 — US strikes hit Bandar Abbas and nearby Qeshm Island, near the port holding detained seafarers.
Jun 11 — Iran declared the Strait of Hormuz closed. Tankers began switching off AIS to move undetected.

Tracking interest around Bandar Abbas peaked at +153% above the previous days.
Users tracking the region came mainly from the US, UK, Iran, India, UAE, and France.
With vessels going dark and activity increasing, the Strait of Hormuz has become one of the world’s most closely watched maritime corridors.
